Grand Canyon walk - Blackheath NSW

On 9 February 2013 I decided to take the Grand Canyon Walk at Blackheath, NSW.

One of the most historic bushwalks in the Blue Mountains and considered to be one of the more amazing treks under 5 hours for a round trip.

Walking steadily down through tall timbered country, you are slowly met by water ways, ferns, and cool air, as you follow the path down the steep canyon as it winds itself out to the valley.

The following is a few of my images from that walk, and unfortunately, lost a few images due to my tripod giving up the trip about half way along, collapsing every time it was locked into place.

But, before this, I was able to obtain a number of great shots and can highly recommend this walk. Word of advice...take plenty of water and food. The trip down is great. The trip back out is a real test of fitness!

I find that an early rise is always worthwhile. Catch a great little sunrise on the way out to a new location.

I couldn't help myself but take a selfie on the way through the Grand Canyon. Hassan's Walls at Lithgow is a favourite spot and sitting there as the sun rose is definitely a great way to start the day.

After parking down at Evans Lookout (next to about 3 hiace backpacker vans), I started my walk up to the beginning of the track (about 2 km from the carpark). I made my way through typical mountain bushland with these red devil flowers everywhere.

After making the first major descent into the canyon, the first river crossing is only small, but the cool change hits you straight away. Much needed too.

A view back up the canyon where the walk had begun.

Unfortunately, once I entered the canyon, I was unable to take a lot of images. There was a fair bit of construction work going on and about 200 large white bags containing carved stone throughout. Just means I need to take another trip.

The next two images is of a small rock pool located along the track in the canyon.

Along the way a number of small waterfalls from little run offs can be found. This is one example of these which can be found throughout the trip.

Nearing the end of the canyon walk, you reach a cross road. One track returns to the top of the mountain, near the starting point. The other takes you down to Beauchamp Falls which is only a mere 1.8 km walk..with half of that down a steep slope.

The next three shots are from the crossroads.

When walking to Beauchamp Falls, after walking along the creek bed, the forest opens up to the valley and mountains ahead.

After a steep climb down and clambering over large boulders, Beauchamp Falls can be found. Definitely worth the walk.

The last two images are also taken along the Grand Canyon walk and are two other small water crossings you will find.

Ice Eggs in time for Easter

I decided to try something a little different with Easter nearly upon us. With a little food colouring, water bombs and 2 days in the deep freezer, I created a range of frozen eggs.
From these, I tried to take a number of varying shots in different sets to try to capture the best of these.
I think the end idea turned out well with some of the images where there are a number in the shot..what do you think?
